1. A New All-Aluminum Body

While Porsche has relied on aluminum alloy in its vehicles to save weight, it has never been utilized as extensively on the old 911 as it has in the new Type 992. According to Porsche, the outgoing Type 991, the 2019 Porsche 911 model, was around 63% steel. In contrast, the new Type 992 is only 30% steel, meaning that its far lighter than its predecessor.

The aluminum used in the construction of the new Type 992 is also more corrosion resistant than the steel used in past Porsche 911s, as an added benefit.

2. New 8-Speed PDK Gearbox

Over a decade ago Porsche introduced the automated dual-clutch PDK 7-speed gearbox in a previous Porsche 911, the Type 997. However, the new Type 992 will break this trend by featuring an entirely new and improved 8-speed PDK gearbox, the first time this gearbox has been used in a Porsche sports vehicle.

This new gearbox will improve acceleration, give greater efficiency, and provide future accommodation of a hybrid module.

Just as it sounds, the new 2020 Porsche 911, the Type 992, will feature a wider body than the previous 911, allowing a variety of advantages. This increase in size will allow greater lateral grip and cornering performance, as well as give engineers more space to work.

With the mention of the new 8-speed PDK gearbox being designed with the intention of a future hybrid option, it can be assumed that the larger chassis will allow for more batteries or a larger battery.
