1. Check the Air Filter
Many problems on a vehicle are a result of faulty air filters. These become worn down over time, typically over the course of a year or so, and as such we encourage replacing them every 12 months or after 12,000 miles. Air filters can affect your vehicle as well as your air conditioning, meaning that you might be hurting your own health if you don’t replace them. A mechanic can replace an air filter in 30 minutes or less, but you can do it yourself with relative ease if you’re familiar with your vehicle.
2. Fluid Check and Replacement
These are some of the most important aspects of a vehicle and the ones you need to keep an eye on the most. They tend to run out and wear down quickly. Examples of fluids you need to inspect include your vehicle’s oil, its transmission fluids, the brake fluid, and the coolant. It is recommended to change out these fluids as often as your owner’s manual suggests. It may be different for each model so be sure to check your manual for specifics.
3. Change Spark Plugs
A commonly overlooked aspect of a vehicle for inexperienced drivers is the spark plugs. These can often cause engine issues as they wear out and eventually die, and so should be replaced every 30,000 miles or so. Again, reading your owner’s manual for the specifics of your vehicle is recommended.
These are just some of the many tips we recommend for keeping your vehicle in excellent condition. Your vehicle is a large investment, especially if you purchase from a dealership like ours, and so you should make sure to take care of it!
